Some of the best athletes in the world will compete in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Müller Anniversary Games in a line up so strong that it will resemble an Olympic of World Championships final.
Brianna Rollins and Kristi Castlin both secured selection for the Rio Olympics by finishing first and second respectively at the US Olympic Trials. Rollins finished fourth at the World Championships last year but proved her class with a run of 12.34 whilst Castlin, who has never competed at an Olympic Games, produced a PB of 12.50 when it really mattered to fend off the rest of the competition.
Amongst those who missed out were Kendra Harrison who clocked the second fastest ever time over the 100m hurdles earlier this season with a time of 12.24 at the Eugene Diamond League. That run, just 0.03 seconds off the world record, eclipsed fellow American Brianna Rollin’s then American record of 12.26 seconds.
The two faced off at the Birmingham Diamond league it was Harrison who proved her class earning victory in a time of 12.46 to edge out Rollins who was second.
Britain’s main hopes rest with sisters Tiffany Porter and Cindy Ofili as they look to build on their impressive performances that earned Rio selection. Porter, the recently crowned British Champion, won the bronze medal at last weekend’s European Championships to add to the gold she won in 2014.
Boasting a PB of 12.54 over the 100m hurdles, Jessica Ennis-Hill will also compete in the individual event as she prepares to defend her heptathlon title at the Olympic Games.
