The world’s best athletes are set to head to the Park for the three-day athletics event, including the world’s only two-day IAAF Diamond League meeting on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July, with the Sainsbury’s IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final taking place on Sunday 26th July.
Johnson-Thompson will return to the Stadium where she made her Olympic debut in the heptathlon in 2012, finishing 15th at the age of just 19, and was victorious in the long jump at the 2013 Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.
She said: “I’m so excited about the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, it’s going to be one of the events of the year. The Olympics was my first senior international event and it’s such a special stadium for me. It will be amazing to go back to the Stadium and bring back the memories, it’s definitely my favourite event of the calendar.”
The 22 year old, who ended 2014 as the world’s number one ranked heptathlete, has a long jump personal best of 6.93m and could become the first Brit to jump over 7m in London. Johnson-Thompson is looking forward to getting back to her best and testing herself in the event in which she won World Junior Championships gold in 2012.
She continued: “I’m back in full training and everything is going well. This will be a great test four weeks out from Beijing and I’m doing my favourite event in the long jump.”
