2012 Birmingham Diamond League Flashback
2012 was an iconic year for British sport with the highly anticipated London Olympic and Paralympic Games captivating the nation for much of the summer. In late August the Birmingham Grand Prix saw an unprecedented abundance of talent fresh from the podium competing in the West Midlands – and they certainly didn’t disappoint.

In a new flashback series as we build up to the Müller Birmingham Diamond League, we take a look at past Birmingham athletics meets, and today we wind the clock back to the 2016 edition of the event taking place a couple of month’s prior to the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

TRIPLE OLYMPIC CHAMPION THOMPSON-HERAH AND TOKYO FINALIST NEITA JOIN WORLD-CLASS 100M LINE-UP
Olympic relay bronze medallist Daryll Neita (GBR) will join fellow Briton Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) in the women’s 100m at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League on Saturday 21 May, a stacked field that also features Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah (JAM) and Tokyo medallists, Shericka Jackson (JAM) and Gabrielle Thomas (USA).

KNIGHT LINES UP AGAINST WORLD CLASS 400M HURDLES FIELD AT MÜLLER BIRMINGHAM DIAMOND LEAGUE
The World’s top one-lap hurdlers, including Jessie Knight (GBR), and Tokyo silver medallist, Dalilah Muhammad (USA), will do battle in the women’s 400m hurdles at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League, on Saturday 21 May, the second meeting of the 2022 Wanda Diamond League series.

MUIR AND REEKIE CONFIRMED FOR 1500m HEAD TO HEAD
Olympic silver medallist Laura Muir will open her season over 1500m at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League on Saturday 21 May in an exciting head to head with training partner and Olympic 800m fourth-place finisher Jemma Reekie.

POZZI TO LINE UP AGAINST REIGNING AND FORMER OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS IN BIRMINGHAM
Former world indoor champion Andrew Pozzi (GBR) will line up against reigning Olympic champion Hansle Parchment (JAM) and former Olympic champion Omar McLeod (JAM) in the 110mH at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday 21 May.

ONE MONTH TO GO UNTIL BIRMINGHAM
With one month to go until the Müller Birmingham Diamond League (21 May), British athletics greats Iwan Thomas and Marilyn Okoro were back at the Alexander Stadium in the West Midlands to get a first glimpse at the stunning, revamped venue as it prepares to welcome the world’s best athletes next month.

GILES LEADS STRONG BRITISH CONTINGENT JOINING OLYMPIC MEDALLIST KERR IN BIRMINGHAM
Elliot Giles, the fourth fastest British athlete of all time over 800m (1:43.63i), will step up in distance to line up an epic battle of the Brits over the 1500m at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday 21 May.

SIZZLING 100M LINE UP HEADED FOR MüLLER BIRMINGHAM DIAMOND LEAGUE
The men’s 100m will showcase some of the fastest athletes in the world with Andre de Grasse (CAN), Trayvon Bromell (USA), and Yohan Blake (JAM) amongst the star names set to star at the Müller Birmingham Diamond League, the second meeting of the 2022 Wanda Diamond League series, at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday 21 May.
